TELEVISION- A form of entertainment or a reason behind obesity in children?

No doubt that television is a form of infotainment for everybody. It is a source of entertainment and education as well, but children those who are exposed to television screen for too long could be gaining excessive weight as a result. Children who watch one to two hours of TV a day are more likely to be overweight and obese. Constant daily television watching reduces the physical activities of kids and this is the lead cause of obesity. The children sitting all the time in front of big screens and eating unhealthy fatty food items makes them overweight and obese. Childhood obesity risk rise up to
60% when children watching 1 hour of TV.  Children who have TV sets in their rooms are likely to gain excess weight and it has a ling lasting impact.

Obesity in children can have a harmful effect on the body. Children who are obese have a greater risk of
High blood pressure and high cholesterol, which are risk factors for cardiovascular disease
Increased risk of impaired glucose tolerance, insulin resistance and diabetes
Breathing problems, such as sleep apnea, and asthma
Joint problems and musculoskeletal discomfort
Fatty liver disease, gallstones
Psychological stress such as depression, behavioural problems, and issues in school
Low self-esteem and low self-reported quality of life
Impaired social, physical, and emotional functioning
